Hello everyone,

can someone help me identify what is to be seen in this photo?
I mean it is obviously a burial, but where is it, who are the officers, and what is the history of it??

I scanned the backside as well but can not read the writing...

Michael

You think, the single word in the middle is "Orastie"?

Hmm, how would german paras come to death within Romania at that time?

@mic, I think 21 inf is right, the name is Orăștie.

I saw somewhere pictures with a crash wreck of a german Ju 52 in the area ( Hunedoara county ) from the same year. It could be the victims from that crash.

From my new book that I intend to publish in January

Thank you IonIonescu

It's a book about 7th Fighter Group during ww2, but in every chapter I have two or three short stories about bombers, paratroopers or AA crews, like this one.

Anyway, I wonder what was their mission. Maybe they were just moved near front and they should landind on an aerodrome somewhere in Greece...

And another question: are they still burried in Orastie? And what about the pilots? They also died...

I cheched my Luftwaffe losses database, but could not find this particular incident.

However, interestingly, for the same day it is listed a Ju 52 lost at Otopeni! The following is given as reason for the crash: "Crew killed in crash due to pilot error." Unfortunately, only one name is given, that of Fw. Werner.
