Although I am not a regular participant, I would be grateful if any of the specialists in this forum can lead me to documents relating to the Russian spy Lydia Stahl, who, according to British newspapers, was arrested by Romanian officials, rescued by Gestapo police, and executed in the aftermath of the July 20, 1944, assassination conspiracy against Hitler.

Voyageur 22 : Not an expert by anymeans but ... Give these sources below a try , my guess is the GRU " lost her" as her cover was pretty well blown by the time she got out of French Jail , then she went to Romainia ??, and helping to plot to kill Hitler in '44 ..... seems a stretch.... but just speculating here , Stalin could have used her under penalty of death , with him not caring if she got caught .... or maybe the Nazi's " turned " her in 1940 ...... most likely though .. nothing is as it seems in the spy game eh? Douglas Porch, The French Secret Service (1995), relates that Stahl was liberated from French prison by the Nazis in 1940. She then worked as an undercover agent for the Gestapo in Romania. Porch, citing French sources, claims that she escaped with Gestapo agents to South America at the end of the war. What are the dates of the British newspaper sources etc. ?
