Hi guys! Against all odds, I found another Romanian aircraft instrument here in Bulgaria! This time - an altimeter.

It is similar in size and has the same markings like this airspeed indicator http://www.worldwar2.ro/forum/index.php?showtopic=4311&hl=

/although there are no words Prerom Brasov, but only the emblem - a propeller and letters PR/.

On the back side it is marked PR H - 17 63

I believe it is WW2 vintage, isn't it? Can you please tell me, from what type of aircraft is it? Thanks in advance!

It's an altimeter 8000m.
Used on many planes from IAR and ICAR factories.

Below is the same altimeter from IAR-39 biplane.

Yes, it is the same used on IAR 80.

Thank you for your reply! I wonder, how these came to Bulgaria? Haven't heard of any Romanian aircraft crashing here.

In Bulgaria 2 aircraft factories produced quite many aircraft of several types. Ok, one was a Caproni factory, so the aircraft instruments were probably Italian. But the other one made many aircraft, too. Not impossible, that some instruments were purchased from Romania? Who knows...

I read somewhere that at ASAM Pipera were repaired not only romanian and germans planes (Bf 109) but also bulgarian. Maybe they replaced the original instruments with romanian ones.

That is a very plausible scenario.
The instrument seems to be based on a German Kroneis design - the shape, location and colour of the fine altimeter is typical of Kroneis designs. It may be made under licence in Romania. If that is the case, the mounts and imputs are BOG standard and therefore compatible with a German-manufactured instrument.
