Medal news

In this pic from www.presidency.ro we can see that they actually received two cases. The small one seems to be some kind of a table medal. Does anybody know what medal was that?

Actress Olga Tudorache was awarded the Grand Cross of the Order of Loyal Service. She also received the Grand Cross of the Order of the Star of Romania in 2000.

On 8-9 April there will be a fair in Bucharest organised in the yard of the Sutu Palace (The Museum of Bucharest).

There will be another fair in Bucharest next week at Primaria Sectorului 2, near Bucur-Obor.

On April 4, President Basescu awarded:

The Order of the Star, Grand Officer, to Gabriel de Broglie from the French Institute.

The Order of the Star, Commander:
- Hélène Carrère ďEncausse, from the French Academy;
- Herbert Mang, president of the Austrian Academy;
- Sylvester Vizi, president of the Hungarian Academy.

The Order of Cultural Merit, Grand Officer:
- Arnaud ďHauterives, from the French Academy of Art;
- Jean Dercourt, from the French Academy.

The Order of Cultural Merit, Commander:
- Alain Plantey, French ambassador;
- Gheorghe Duca, president of the Moldovan Academy;
- professor Jean Montreuil;
- professor Jaime Gil-Aluja.

The Order for Merit, Knight:
- Maria T. Greblescu;
- Dumitru T. Paica;
- Isadora C. Precup (all of them from the Romanian Academy).

Medal for Merit, 3rd Class, to Alina Bianca Gh. Istrate from the Romanian Academy.

Another RomAntique fair will take place at World Trade Plaza on 29-30 April.

The Rumanian soldier killed recently in Irak, 2nd Lt. (post-mortem) Hâncu V. M. Bogdan, received the Star of Rumania Order:

BBC News mentions that it is the war version of the decoration, the first such award since the re-establishment of the order in 1998.

On May 3, all the players and coaching staff of men's handball club Steaua Bucharest were awarded the Order of Merit for sports (Meritul Sportiv), 2nd class, as a reward for winning the 2006 edition of the Challenge Cup. The team's medic was awarded the 3rd class of the order, while his assistant got the 1st class of the medal.

More events for May:

- collector's fair in Cluj Napoca on May 27

There is another fair called "Junimea 2006" in Constanta, between 20-24 May. However, this one might be just for the collectors of stamps.

There might be a numismatics fair in Piatra Neamt on June 4. Possible locations: Clubul Filatelistilor or Restaurant Paharnicul.

The fair in Cluj is usually held at Expo Transilvania.

Also, there will be a fair in Iasi on 1-2 July.
