How are you,
I am curious about the official conscription age in the days of the Kingdom of Romania. I am wandering if during World War Two was the same as during World War One. It occurred to me that in late 1980's, during the Ceausescu regime, you could be drafted after turning 18 (after the graduation of high school), but in late June 1944, when my father turned 18, he was not conscripted into military service, even though he did not have medical problems. He did his military service, but at that moment WWII was already over. For my maternal grandfather, the issue was clear in WWI: When that war started for Romania, he was not yet 13, and during the war with Hungary, following WWI, he was 16...17. Well, he recuperated heavily for his WWI absenteeism, with WWII: almost 3 years in the front lines of the Eastern Front. Thank you and regards, Florin |
