Soldat Group: Members Posts: 19 Member No.: 301 Joined: June 28, 2004	Hello, My grandfather, like many others fought in WWII. First he was part of Antonescu's guard, then after it was disbanded he was sent to the front. He was killed in the Baneasa forest after 23 August 1944. It seems there was an aerial bomardment, I do not know exactly if it was American, German or Russian, that it was a big confusion. These things I know from my grandmother. The question: DOes anyone know what happened after 23 August in teh Baneasa forest, what units fought there, who won? Admin Group: Admin Posts: 4350 Member No.: 3 Joined: February 11, 2003	The unit that did most of the fighting in the forest was the 4th Paratrooper Battalion. It was also the most affected by the USAAF bombardment on 26 August (carried out by 115 B-24Ds).

I do not know who fought in Baneasa forest bu I know that after august the 23rd 1944 the german Luftwaffe bombed Bucharest aswell. I am not certain who bombed Baneasa forest, but it might have been the germans.
