Thank you very much for the information. So there were only two orders of St. George awarded to the Romanian officers (in contrast to the 1877-8 war when there were three awards). |

Only now I have realised the date? Is 15 March 1918 the correct date for the award to King Ferdinand I? Who made the award? The Kerensky government had been overthrown on 25.10/07.11.1917, i.e., more than 4 months before the stated award date. |

I read about one mixt crew french-romanian, on Farman 40, who downed an enemy plane near Braila in a hard fight. The crew was avarded with St. George. Maybe tomorrow i came with more details. Iama |

You have some very interesting information. Can you extract from your archive all the Romanian recipients of the Order of St. George? This far you have listed nine recipients, three for the 1877-1878 war and six for the 1916-1918 war. |

I am still puzzled by the awards dated 1918. Are you sure about these dates? Who made these awards? The Kerensky government had been overthrown on 25.10/07.11.1917 and as far as I know the Bolshevik government suppressed the system of orders of the Czarist regime (that had in fact been maintained that far by the provisional government who took the power after the overthrow of the Czar).

Yes, I know that. And probably you refer to the fact that third and fourth class awards were authorised by a Council of St. George. But weren't the actual awards made by the head of the Russian state (up to 1917 the Czar and later presumably by the head of the provisional government)? Do you mean that between 1917 and 1920 (and maybe earlier - I do not have enough knowledge on the Russian orders, but I would gladly like to learn) there was not a single award authority, but rather lower level (army, corps, divisional etc.) councils that could make the awards for this prestigious order?
