Are there documents from Romanian Soldiers, like you had on the German side Wehrpassen/Soldbuchen etc. ??

Where could I find more information about Romanian documents during WWII?
Is it hard to find Romanian documents?

Yes, there are some Romanian IDs. some very similar to the German counterparts. some were even specific to a branch (I am speaking about ARR).

I will get back with some details and scans tonight or tomorrow the latest.

ARR military documents are hard to come by. ARR civil documents are even rarer.

As per the usual grunt's "livret", you can find one pretty easy. I will post some scans of one example tomorrow.

"Hard to get" refers probably to the collectable items! Otherwise, the archives are open to the interested public - be it the Romanian Military Archives in Piteşti, be it the Ministry of National Defense in Bucharest. The only condition is for the documents to be older than 50 years...

It's not that simple. You have to explain first why are you asking access to the archives and what project are you working on. Then 'the competent person' grants you access... or not.

And, Denes, that isn't simple?!?! I'm not familiar with anyone being rejected!
I told them at Pitesti I was studying for my master - and they didn't ask my for my academic credentials; they only wanted the ID, because it's a military unit There is no problem with getting there; only the regulations at each "site" must be respected (no photos, no phones etc.)!
ARR stands for "Armata Regală Română", aka Royal Romanian Army. About the "livret" stuff, I don't know - I'm not interested. Probably one could find such things at older people - veterans or like that, but I have doubts if they'll be "for sale".

ARR stands for AERONAUTICA REGALA ROMANA - Romanian Royal Airforce - in my book.

ARR documents are very hard to come by. In my collecting days, I have only seen three examples, and two I bought. For some reason, these are very seldom to be encountered.

You can always find good examples of regular Army "livret" ID cards at fleamarkets, but usually it will be the Communist era "livret". The Royal era pieces are a bit harder to come by, but they are attainable also.

@ Dennis, if you want to have one "livret" for a regular Royal Romanian Army grunt, with no fancy awards and stuff like that, PM me, we can work something out.

@ MMM - if you want to research something very exactly specified, for an academic research, things are easier, and you are also right on the "military regime" style of PR on the archive guys - rules are rules. But from the collector point of view, trying to research a very specific person, it is another matter.

Wow! Sorry about the ARR confusion, but on this forum I've usually met the RoAF abbreviation for Romanian Air Forces...

This is a little unclear. If you do tell them "military archive guys" that you want to research a specific person, do you think they won't let you? You can always push in the scientific reason...
To tell you the truth, I always took for granted the archive access even from college days (History) and that also helped (confidence ) when talking to the archivists. One can always give it a try...
