I saw a picture with cpt. Serbanescu's standing in front of his plane (Bf 109 G2/R6) in summer 1943. It's an well known photo. I was woderring if the plane number (1) was white or yellow. In Avions magazine n°100 Mr Craciunoiu said that the number is white, in Bf 109 Roumains (hors série d'Airmagazine) it is said that the number is yellow. What do you think?

Thanks,

Nobody??? Bazu had a G2 in the same period and its number was white 4. Two well known photos shows the numbers 5 and 7, both white numbers. But was Serbanescu's plane all green (upper surfaces)??? In that case, maybe the number is white... and the yellow is just a mistake -- cf. Serbanescu's G6 had a yellow number.

Serbanescu flew more than one G-2, serialled No. 1.
White 1 was flown in the Summer of 1943, damaged and returned to the Germans (it was their property).
No. 1 (no colour mentioned in documents) was also flown by him, and belly landed in October 1943.
Yellow 1 was flown in Tiraspol by other pilots, during schooling, but it's unclear if it was an ARR or a Luftwaffe machine.

The pick is yours...

Hello Bernard,

Sorry for delay answer (i 'm in Berlin ).
The Serbanescu Bf 109 G2 from that mentioned picture is "white 1" . All the planes from 7th FG from in that period ('43) were with white numbers.
Only in '44 both groups 7th and 9th begin to use color numbers on the Bf 109 G's.

Happy modelling

Dan.
