Almost a year ago I got a Soviet soldiers ID booklet. After research I found out that the soldiers ID booklet had belonged to a Soviet soldier (infect a Ukrainian soldier) who served in the 265th Guards Rifle Regiment of the 86th Guards Rifle Division. In the period of March until September 1944 the 86th Guards Rifle Division was formed into the 5th Shock Army. In August 1944 the 86th Guards (5th Shock Army) took part in the destruction of the German 6th Army in Romania.
From September 1944 the 86th Guards were transferred to 46th Army and remained there until the war’s end. In the 46th Army, the 86th Guards moved through Romania, Bulgaria and (former) Yugoslavia.
Does anyone know were the 86th Guards Rifle Division or the 265th Guards Rifle Regiment exactly was in Romania during their campaign/fights against the German 6th Army? Through which Romanian towns could the 86th Guards Rifle Division possible came?
