They are original photos from World War II, usually handed over or inherited from members of older generation, into the same family. Sometimes the photos even include members of the family of the person selling the photo. And to let it get away for 10 dollars... I feel remorse even for using the aluminum water bottle with leather straps, offered by my grandfather when I was child. It looked brand new because it was not used. Several years after my grandfather died, I used it for hiking in the Carpathian Mountains. The leather straps cracked, and the iron based rivets got partly rusty. In my ignorance, I was not aware that the "new" bottle was issued to the mountain units during or before WWII. This post has been edited by Florin on March 28, 2012 06:40 am |

These photos are usually sold by dealers, who have no personal attachment to the pictures. They just want to make a profit.
On the other hand, this way these photos are not thrown away, but can be preserved, sometimes published to everyone's benefit. By the way, it was I who won that particular photo. Gen. Dénes This post has been edited by Dénes on March 28, 2012 10:13 am |
