I'm interested to know what device you used to transfer Video files from the VCR to your computer.

I would like to know this before I buy very expensive Video Card called 'ATI Radeon 7500 AIW' that is about 200 dollars and according to
the manufacturer allows you plug your video aparatus and transfer film to your PC. You can even watch TV on your computer. So before I buy this card, I wanted to know if it is worth it or if there is a cheaper method of doing this.

2) The second question is why the movies don't have sound, why are they so small, could they not be in a larger window?
How do you "create" such a movie with Flash animation, is it difficult?
Perhaps in the future we can have sound too.

1) I can't give you an advice, because I don't have such a card. A friend of me has one, and he handed me the clips already on the cd. What I know is that a cheap tv card usually gives poor results, and requires a lot of processing power from your system.

2) Because the clips are already large in size, and take a lot of time to download on poor connections. Also, the sound in these documentary is usually processed in studios, so it's not the original sound to be expected.

About the Flash thing, nothing is difficult if you know how to handle it laugh.gif

I have a related question too.
I have 9 minutes of original front footage (1942) copied from the Archives - don't ask how :-)

It's a propaganda piece, the type that used to be shown before movies at theaters. Lots of artillery action, machine gun battles, description of generals (mainly Avramescu and Lascar). The sound (narrative) is really funny - it's all about our "holy crusade" against the evil forces of bolshevism, bringing Christianity to the Ukraine, etc....

Anyway, I have the clip in MPEG-2 (high quality) but it takes up a lot of space (400 MB). I'd like to compress it to a lower-quality format so I can send it to other friends, but I'm not sure what I should do. Convert to MPEG-4? Or is there a Flash format or some other format which gives you a smaller file?

Victor/Dragos - for instance, how many MB is, let's say, 60 seconds of one of the clips you use on your website? I just want to get an idea of what to expect.

Thanks.

Listen, I tried to use a microphone to record a song (military march) from a Video casette to the computer. I was about 2 minutes long and the size of the file that I saved (with all the background noise of the microphone recording) was about 3 or 4 megs.

With video I don't know because I haven't recorded video yet, I will but that video card for sure because it is the only one I know which has Video In/Out meaning you can plug you TV or VCR into the back of your computer and so transfer film files. You can also plug in your Digital Camera Foto or Film and so transfer Pictures or Movie Clips to your PC

READ HERE => 8) Read here about this card, it is really neathttp://mirror.ati.com/products/radeon7500/aiwradeon7500/index.html

===============================================As for the movie Clips you have, I need to know - is it ANF ? (Arhiva Nationala de Filme) !! I have a similar movie 2 hours long, it's about Antonescu and the Army and it's full of Romanian Propaganda!! ahahah!
it goes like this..."Generalul Conducator, incodjurat de statul sâu major si de ofiterii Germani, a ingenunchiat imprenuâ cu intreaga tarâ intro sarâveche Biserica ziditâ de Stafan Vodâ si s-a rugat lui dumnezeu sâ aduca victorie ostilor noastre, ce porneau sa infringâ pe Barbari " laugh.gif

Another one:""Armamentul de insotire este asezat in pozitie, artileria grea neutralizeazâ cuiburile de rezistentâ bosevice!"" tongue.gif
or for example..the Battle of odessa..."Trupele Romane in lupta contra Bolsevismului Pâgan si Barbar, intrâ simultan in oras din toate directiunile.... ohmy.gif
"Deauspra Odessei, Ostasii crucii si ai dreptatii inaltâ tricolorul Romanesc sub care ei au luptat si-au biruit!" I love this propaganda, and I wish I could get more, the voice of this commentator is absolutely funny "fascist porpaganda" our ennemies would say today but it's halarious! laugh.gif

*That is why I put the message there in the first place, I wanted to know how to transfer these Movie clips so I can put them on a website

Perhaps you are interested in my film, just as I am interested in yours!
I absolutely want to see it! !!

Thanks for the info...

Sure, I'm interested in your movie clip. Sounds interesting/funny.....mine is also filled with propaganda (and yes, it's from ANF or Arhiva Militara)
I'll find a way to send you mine as soon as I find a way to compress it.

Thanks for the info...let me know about your progress with the video card.

P.S. By the way, if you're interested, send me a private message and I'll make a copy of my CD and mail it to you.

mabadesc, in order to compress or resize a movie sequence, you need a movie editor. If you want to compress your movie and still use it for future editing purposes (the quality must me good) you should use standard avi compressors, such us indeo or cinepak. I recommend using mpeg or wmv format only for the final clips, that would not be edited further. A good movie capturing and editing program is Adobe Premiere.

Highly interesting, this does help me too.
Just what I was looking for.

* Tell me something else, - If you know how to transfer sound/music from a Casette (tape) to the computer. From a CD it's one thing, it's easy but from a Cesette or a Record Plate it's more challenging. (Except with a microphone (which is cheap and makes background noise) is there another way? Can you plug your Casette player into the computer somehow?

Thanks for your help, Dragos. I know this is not a technical IT forum, but your advice helps a lot.

Thanks again,

Mihai.

You should plug a cable from the casette player's line-out to the sound card's line-in. If the casette player does not have a line-out you can use the out for the speakers.
