In order to keep the troublemakers at bay, the registration process now includes two required fields: full name of the registerer and the real location. Note that these fields are hidden throughout the forum, being visible only for administrators. Also, each registration request will be examined by the forum administrators before validation.

IMHO, it would also be quite an effective "invitation" to seriousness and self-possession to have an open IP policy for the posters in the forum. Each post should mention its author's corresponding IP. It's really not much a deterrent for abusive members of the forum to have IPs known by moderators only, I think, but it would make a difference if they would be known by anyone.
And if I may do so, I think the mods should try as much as possible to limit and prevent heckling, baiting and otherwise tendentious and provocative behavior from ideologically charged members of the forum, which I think is (this kind of behavior i.e.) on the increase.
History, sine ira et studio, i.e. based on arguments and not racial, political, religious or nationalistic prejudice - not to mention pure totalitarian (be it communist, national-socialist, or jihadi) propaganda or paranoid ideas - should be the subject of discussion.
Maybe an enlargement of the moderators team is necessary at this point for this forum. For as far as I can see, although he had some sort of a nervous breakdown which I find dismaying and somewhat unexplainable, and for which I can only pity him, I think right now alexdl's opinion on this forum's perspectives is very much substantiated.
Anyway, I will step back for a while, refrain from further posting here (when I got angry about some utterly baseless communist claptrap spewed in the forum I got banned for a week), and see how things work out (maybe they'll work out just fine).

Regards,

valachus

Not sure where to post this.

Apparently I'm getting automatically subscribed to every thread I'm visiting/posting in. I didn't select or toggle anything. Such a situation is not really bearable blink.gif Need some help.

The difference is that now the "Enable email notification of replies?" checkbox under the post editting window is checked by default. You need to uncheck it in order not to receive e-mail notifications.

If you go into 'My Controls' folder, underlined on the top, then on the left side to 'Subscriptions', then 'View Topics', you will see all the topics you are currently following automatically.
If you unsubscribe from them, you won't receive any more e-mail alerts.

Dénes, I tried that but it keeps coming back as soon as I post in any threads. Dragos is right, under each new post I get a mention "You are currently receiving email notification of replies ". But how am I supposed to de-activate that ? There is no check-box on that level. it must be somewhere else...

Auto-subscribing should never be a default option. Dragos, is it possible to change that ?

Yes, correct. The option I noted is valid only for past threads you've contributed to.

I'm posting this to see if it automatically subscribes me to this topic.

[edit - yes, it did. Chander is right. Post something and you're automatically subscribed to the topic]

I would also prefer to have it unchecked by default (as it was up to a few days ago).

It is done. However, to stop receiving e-mail notifications for the existing topics, follow the instructions given by Denes
