There are several other threads, in fact quite a few, where politics and views on historical events but with inevitable connection with general political situation from the more distant or recent past are present. For some of the threads no military connection can be made - like some medieval history issues or considerations about ideologies. There is nothing wrong with this and that Ch... guy is the last to complain because almost everything he wrote was entirely ideologically motivated. His choice, anyway. But locking the thread because he had a big mouth is a bit too quick. I can understand he was saved by the bell in a mission of mercy (ah, the good old medieval times!), yet, I believe warning a person is a better way than punishing all. Politically correctness never works (well, not entirely true, works in - or soon to be - prison camps sad.gif ).

One or a few open threads where polemics may find room is better than moving the polemics through many other threads. I'm not the one to run scared and I started polemics a few times myself and I'm not the best at self-discipline either but my impression was/is the discussions eventually sticked to logic, if not always facts, and the mutual incriminations ended because a balance was established mostly by self-control.

Wasn't finding the word, now I did : rant. You need to leave people some place where they can rant. I bet such threads would "die" by themselves if one rants too much or rants endlessly over the same topic.

To create a corner special for rant would not work. This is because peoples coming here only for rant (and you know who I'm reffering to) wouldn't limit there and will invade every area. The closed topic "Romania vs. Hungary" is a good example how quickly such an individual can kill a topic with an avalanche of messages, more ore less off-topic. For now we stick to this manner of forum.

Dragos, you killed the topic, not me. You had the admin rights to close it, not me. My posts where 100% on target as far as my interpretation of it's goals were right. You may not agree with this but only the creator of the folder can tell and he remained voluntarily or not silent. If it didn't bother the folder creator or any other members at that time why did it bother you ? Obviously for reasons you decided not to display.

Next. Folders set up for "ranting only" are nothing new. The objective is precisely to avoid cluttering other areas and it works like a charm, example :

http://talk.consimworld.com/WebX?13@139.io...862@.1dcdfe82/0

It says :

"What is wrong with..." This is the area to post general and specific complaints about things relating to the hobby (or outside the hobby) in general. ... The goal of this topic: Rather than clog up other boards, post your gripes here and be heard.

If it works in a forum with 15.000 members I see no reason why it shouldn't work in a forum with 100.

In that topic I view a discussion based in the historical context, an evaluation of the military strength of Romanian and Hungarian armies, in the respect that Romanian army had hipotetical plans of operations for an armed conflict between the two countries before it had actually happened. Instead, the discussion turned into a political debate and personal attacks. If I wasn't clear enough, I say once more: this is a military history forum.

We have the General discussion forum, but even there the discussion should stay in the limits of common sense.

Of course. And military history is full of politics. The politics define the objectives and the means and the military do it's best to comply. Politics frequently meddle in military decisions at all levels. Military history without politics is like a race without a start line, an itinerary and an arrival line.

Sure, you can study military operations separate from politics but your understanding of them will be very limited.

I agree with this. But from here to globalization, european integration, conspirations etc is a jump over the horse. At least we should resume to that historical period.
