Now on eBay, an old badge with the obverse of the Order of Michael the Brave and a blank reverse. Can you please give more details on it? Thanks.

Is this original?

A better question would be: "What exactly is it?".

That could be a modern replica of an old order, similar to this one (sold for a few Euros):

I beleive that this piece is a period original. This is my observation of the period pastel muddy blue enamel with specks in it. Typical of enamel from WW1 period and prior. As for the blank on the reverse side, I think that this could have been privately made as a replacement piece for one that was lost or damaged and the officer may have had to pay out of his own expense for the medal thus the blank side cutting cost. Another opinion is that it could have been made for field wear and the officer did not want to have any enamelling on the reverse side for fear of being damaged. Who really knows about the true reason as this piece is unique. One can only assume that the medal is not cast and the enamelling is of WW1 vintage and therefor it must have been a genuine piece. A copy would not have these WW1 characteristics. As for price, It was a bargain.

I had no idea the National Military Museum sold original pieces. Somehow, that seems like a wrong thing to do for a museum.

Having said that... tongue.gif ...are they still selling stuff? What is their policy? Do they periodically announce items for sale, or do people have to inquire in order to find out?

The National Military Museum doesn’t sell any original artifact. As all similar institutions his artifacts are well preserved in the stores and are under the Ministry of Culture strictly control.
The Museum’s shop is a private initiative and the items for sale come from private sources. The Museum rented only the space, by a public auction. The shop could sell any kind of Militaria items, books, souvenirs in connection with the military history, but has to observe the valid regulations of commercial and cultural laws, as a legal antique shop, and, of course, the Museum interior regulations and program.
The Museum is not involved in the sell process and don’t guarantee the authenticity of the items. So, for any interested people, they should be always careful when purchasing different Militaria items, from there or elsewhere.
