Romanian awards bibliography

I initiate this thread in order to gather and popularise information on the literature dealing with the Romanian awards. Hopefully the list will grow in time. I would appreciate if your future posts would contain an image of the cover of the book, as well as tracking information such as the ISBN if available.

N. T. Ionescu: Decoraţiunile române - ordine, cruci şi medalii [Romanian Decorations - Orders, Crosses and Medals] Bucharest 1915


It represents one of the first attempts to describe the Romanian orders.

K. G. Klietmann: Phaleristik Rumänien [Romanian Phaleristics] Berlin 1975 (ISBN 3 87778 4003)


It is a rather old German work which attempted to classify the Romanian awards.

I. Safta, R. Jipa, T. Velter, F. Marinescu: Decoraţii româneşti de război 1860-1947 [Romanian War Decorations 1860-1947] Bucharest 1992 (ISBN 973-95217-6-2)


Although focused only on the military awards, this is a good reference on Romanian orders.

S. Catone, N. Şerbănescu, D. Bedivan: România - Decoraţii 1859-1991 [Romania - Decorations 1859-1991] Bucharest 1992


While not as detailed as the book by Safta and co-workers, it contains some information about the communist-era decorations.

E. Ichim: Ordinul militar de război Mihai Viteazul [Military War Order of Michael the Brave] Bucharest 2000 (ISBN 973-8101-01-8)


This is quite a comprehensive source on the Order of Michael the Brave which includes lists of recipients.

In German language, catalogue with English indications, size 30 x 21cm, 174 pages, illustrated throughout, with coloured ribbon chart, catalogue part with valuations in Euro/USD.

Book in Romanian and English about the modern system of awards, mostly legislation. Includes a brief history of the awards.

MARIA DOGARU - "Aspiratia poporului roman spre unitate si independenta oglindita in simbol " - Album heraldic . Bombastic title translated in English sounds somthing like : " The aspiration of Romanian People towards unity and independence reflected in symbol" ...... In spite of the fact that this book has a lot of communist rubish it is quite useful . I'll try to upload a picture of this book. Ahh , it was issued in 1981 by Editura stiintifica si enciclopedica - Bucharest.
