The discussion on various threads about hallmarks on orders gave me the idea of a dedicated topic for the identification of hallmarks found on Romanian orders.
I will start with the image of a hallmark from a type I Commander's cross of the Order of the Crown of Romania. It's (unfortunately) the best I could obtain with my camera. As further information, there are two other hallmarks on the badge: "AF" and "A". On the Austrian-made badges, the "A" mark indicates a Viennese manufacturer. |

Are you sure , that the A letter indicates a manufacturer from Vienna ?? This rule is for coins , as far as I know . Can you indicate the source of this information ? Regards.

I have seen this piece of information in the description of various silver objects, something like: "... hallmarked "A" for Vienna". |

950% silver? According to AntiKrom there is a letter in the hallmark. Does anyone know what it is supposed to mean? Which letters are on your marks? |

I'd rather say it is an "L". What about the other marks, "IK", "HW", "IW"? Are they maker's marks? |

The IK is actually "IR"-Resch. The "HW" is Heinrich Weiss. The "IW" is a mystery-I do not recall seeing it on other Weiss pieces. |

When you simply copy/paste information found elsewhere, it is fair to indicate the source. In your case this is the page on the Order of the Star of Romania from Mark Piersall's site on Orders, Decorations and Medals. |

"SILBER", "CFZ" and "MN" marks on a Commander's cross of the Order of the Star of Romania
Originally posted by b737 Does anyone know what is the meaning of the other marks? I suppose one of them is the manufacturing year (1941). If this is true, what about "610"? Was it a serial number? |

Regarding the Weiss marks, if "HW" stands for Heinrich Weiss, what does "BW" stand for? Is it a mystery mark like the "IW" on Cuza's Romanian Eagle decoration?
