Here is the former Culture Minister's explanation for banning the DNA testing of the bodies of Wallachian and Moldavian princes/voievozi:

It would have been more useful to the Romanian history to establish the kinship of the occupant of tomb nr. 10 at Curtea de Arges to Mircea cel Batran. Provided that the few bones left in the tomb at Cozia are Mircea's. This way, we would probably know for sure if the skeleton is of Radu I or Vladislav I.

Hmm, apparently there was already made studies on Moldavian "domnitori" (Musatinii)

I don't have Neagu Djuvara's book at hand right now, but as far as I recall the discussion regarding the Cuman origin of the princes was not about Moldavia, but about Wallachia.

What do they expect to prove with such "DNA tests"?
There was a similar study before www.plosone.org/article/info%3Adoi%2F10.1371%2Fjournal.pone.0041803 Radu This post has been edited by Radub on December 29, 2012 09:26 am |

Indeed! The book is mainly about Thoctomer ("Negru-Vodă") and there aren't references to the territory of the future Moldavia (or the "marks" in there) - which, btw, in the period in discussion, wasn't even mentioned! -------------------- M
