Admin Group: Admin Posts: 4350 Member No.: 3 Joined: February 11, 2003	Well, not everybody replaced them. We would not have any Steaua Romaniei in many collections around thge world today, would we? I have from my grandfather the Steaua Republicii Order and certificate and he mentions the fact that he exchanged the award in a short autobiography. However, he remained in the army until 1954 or 56, so he was proabably compelled to exchange it. others, that were fired could get away with it more easily.

Would seem a shame if a man were to lose or throw away his MV or AV and then want it in his old age after the communist fell...

General de armata Group: Members Posts: 2250 Member No.: 136 Joined: November 06, 2003	I have read something about such a service in which the lost decorations are/were replaced through the veteran associations, but the replacements are unfortunately of poorer quality than the originals.

Sergent Group: Members Posts: 183 Member No.: 286 Joined: May 29, 2004	I understand there are many copies of the Michael the Brave order these days. ALL 3 CLASSES. Could any of these be replacement decorations? Wouldn't matter to me as I consider anything after 1944 to be a repro.

My grandmother threw away all her father's (Avramescu's) german medals, including the German Cross in Gold among others (Iron cross 1st class, etc..) :mad:
She threw them in a lake for fear that they would be found in her home.

And this proved to be a good move, because not long after this happened, one night the security police knocked on her door and arrested her for supposedly anti-communist behavior. They searched the house for anything incriminating, but they couldn't find anything, so she was only sentenced to 11 months forced labor. If they had found those medals, she would have gotten a longer sentence, I'm sure.

Tomorow a meeting with the king. p.s What the hell is doing Duda there???? In UNIFORM!!!!! That guy has no shame! Did he recieved the Mihai The Brave also? And the "Pour Le Merit "?

Never seen him before. Maybe he is not Air Force. Note that his cap doesn't have "wings" like Dicezare's. Maybe he is Gendarmerie.
