Hallo Ingsoc.

With regards the SS medal is the ribbon a replacement?

I know the the clip / pin is not original anyway.

The clip is indeed a later attachment for ones comfort, but the ribbon is known as an original to me.

I am aware that this colour blue ribbon was the standard issue for all Service Medals in the Wehrmacht, but with different style eagles pinned to the cornflower blue ribbon.

The SS Ribbons though had the intial SS woven into them, "Geschwärts Runen auf dem Band" / Dark Silver runes on the ribbon is the litteral translation.

And silver and gilt (gold) coloured bullion runes were on the 3rd Class 8 year medal abd upwards and were not seperate metal pins.

Likewise the Police emblem was woven into the ribbons, the only place small ss runes were encountered were on the mini ribbon bars, like-wise the Police insignia.

Also in my medal books*, the SS medal for 4 years service is given in two classes for the 4 year medal. The classes being denoted by the colour thread woven into the ribbon.

1. Stufe vergoldeter metallfaden. / 1 Class golden metal thread.

2. Stufe alusilberner Metatallfaden. / 2 Class a silver-Aluminium thread.

* Deutscheland- Orden & Ehrenzeichen 1800 - 1945 by Jörg Nimmergut.

AND

A Collectors Guide To: WORLD WAR 2 GERMAN MEDALS and POLITICAL AWARDS by CHRISTOPHER AILSBY.

I believe your ribbon is an original Wehrmacht service ribbon but NOT an original SS Ribbon.

Kevin, I see you have a point there, however 250$ is still very cheap for this medal (I was told it's worth about 350$).
