Estimated value of old coins

Hi Everybody,

The topic I am creating now is in regard with the value of old Romanian coins, or of other old coins circulating on the Romanian territory, as it is today. I have in mind old Imperial Russian and Austrian coins, and so on. (In theory, the subject is open for Turkish and Roman coins, but they are quite rare.)
The sources for these estimates can be from anywhere: Romanian antique shops, street bazaars, Internet, foreign antique shops.

What is the value of a silver "5 lei" piece, minted in 1881?

Right now (December 22) on ebay the "5 bani" copper coin is $15, and $8 shipment to the U.S., and the silver "5 lei" is $99.99 , without shipment.

Your coins are in beautiful condition!
At least the 5 bani are in full mint lustre. Not scarce coin, but at maximum catalog value!
The 5 lei also is rare in this condition!
But... somethig tells me that you know wery well the prices of your coins...

In Romania you can obtain easy over 100 euro for that 5 lei coin... and for the 5 bani I am ready to offer you 20 euro if you want to sell it!

The coins from the pic's are on the ebay? Cause i cannot find them. If BG7M is interested in the 5 bani copper, i may be interested in the 5 lei coin

They are not my coins. I took the photos from an official Romanian site.
My coins were in very good condition, too.
My coins collection was stolen about a year ago (no need for details), and sometimes I simply get sick just thinking about that.
Their commercial value - well, I am starting to get a glimpse. I had 3 pieces of silver "5 lei" and one copper piece of "5 bani", for example. I had at least 100 coins of all kinds, as far as I remember.

But their sentimental value... Priceless.

The way I got the prices:

I inserted some key words for a "Google" search, and that gave me a link directly to a file from "ebay" dedicated for coins, mostly Romanian but not only. The link was not for the homepage of "ebay".

I remember that about 20 years ago when i was just a kid, a colleague of mine from the school stole from me two austro-hungarian copper coins which i never managed to get back. Not much financial value, only sentimental. I was sad/mad for months.

About the other coins, i can help you with values, just tell me some details about them.

The first step would be to write down the items, like a guideline of what should I buy back. Unfortunately, last time I admired them more than 10 years ago. Then I left the country, and I did not dare to bring them in the first years.

Regarding their sentimental value, each coin from my collection had its own story as how did I get them as child. Some of them were dig out by my grandfather, during the spring seeding of the garden. (Among others, 2 Russian copper coins from 1816 were unearthed this way.) The big pieces of silver 5 lei (1881) were part of my grandmother's dower. For others I offered stamps, butterflies or even miniature rechargeable batteries - this last item not to be found in a Socialist store, in the days when I was child and teenager (i.e. the days of the Communist Party).

But on those pages there are hundreds of coins..
If you want to buy them back from the e-bay, take my advice, you should do it now. Now is a very good moment to buy. You can get smaller prices as usual.

However, I just learned this morning some very great news: my coins were found!
Exactly when I started to accept that they are gone.
I do not feel an urgent need to buy some, under this new situation.

I am reminding to you, when you buy from "ebay" check first if there any previous references about the seller, or any previous transaction history about the person. Here in the U.S. some people (among them, I remember a woman from Long Island, New York) who got the money, but never delivered. That woman left her house in hand cuffs, escorted by police.
A teenager created a website where he sold puppies to dumb girls, got the money, and never delivered anything. Not even his mother, a hard working woman, was not aware what was going on.

PS: One item offered on "ebay": a time travel machine. The item was... SOLD!

Unfortunately these things happen very often on the ebay, i had myself similar experiences with some sellers. One time after i bought a coin from a U.S. seller and he put it back on auction the next day after i have sent the payment, and sold it again. But i was "lucky" because in the end i received the coin... after several months.
