Diecast Armor and Aircraft, Discussion of diecast military models

Dragon 1/72 Armor Series.

Dragon recently came out with a Nashorn (Hornisse) diecast model in their WWII armor series which looks better and more detailed than the tanks they've been producing so far.

Are they taking a step forward in improving the quality of their models or is this just a one-time event?

Take a look for yourself at the level of detail, especially for the main gun mechansim and for the fighting compartment. Remember, these are small models - usually not more than 5 cm in length and 3 cm in width and height.







This last photo shows a Ferdinand alongside the Nashorn. The Ferdinand looks good, but not nearly as detailed as the Nashorn.

some time ago i bought a 1:32 Tiger (1944 Normandy) by Forces of Valor.
it doesn't look bad, however the painting is ocasionally what you expect from a mass-production modell.
they ain't cheap tho .

"my" local modelling store recently supplied themselves with the 1/72 Dragon armor series.
aside from modern stuff, i saw there, mostly german armor including Tiger I, Tiger II, Jagd Tiger, StuG IV and Nashorn. also some T-34/76 Red Army and Beutepanzer.

i'd say they are really niceley done at a reasonably price. about 17€ is not bad, considering that Rocco wants around 20-25€ for their "painted" minitanks 1/87, where they did a horrible painting job.

i've been into figure painting (albeit not very much) in the last 2 years. since i thought i'm really bad at it, doing the stuff freehand, i bought recently the 1/32 716th Inf. (because i really like machineguns ) set from FoV to get at least a comparision baseline.
i wonder what's diecast in that set since it's 100% from plastic.

during the last year i purchased a few more items, mainly from Forces of Valor.
a King Tiger
2 StuGIIIG
a 105mm M2A1 US howitzer, all 1:32

i am quite pleased with the quality of the models, however the price might be a bit high if purchased in a regular store. so i limited myself to ebay.

also i got a He-111 H6 1:72 recently from Corgi.
i was impressed by the weight of the model. that one really deserves the "extreme metal" predicate.
