What? I haven't noticed this, but now I see that this guy (Mihai Mitrea?) indeed sells the stolen photos. Incredible and inexcusable.
The web site host should be contacted in view of this on-line fraud.

Very detailed maps of various Bessarabian Cities/Villages ~ 1941

http://www.wwii-photos-maps.com/bessarabianmaps/

From the same site aerial photo of Viisoara airfield

http://www.wwii-photos-maps.com/aerialmisc...%20Romania.html

I know these are not 100% related to the topic but they might be of interest.

QUOTE (dragos @ March 23, 2011 03:45 pm)
A lot were taken from this site and forum. It looks like the author grabbed everything he could find on the Internet.

The problem is that a lot of people in Romania don't fully understand yet the meaning of copyright or author rights. During communism this term had no meaning, so probably it would take a while for this thing to be treated serious.

At least if the source was mentioned ...

Not only in Romania... And, in general, instead of "people ..... don't fully understand yet the meaning of copyright or author rights", I would mention "People don't want to understand the meaning of copyright or author rights", because it is so profitable for them.
China signed the international patent agreements only in 2001, and that after combined pressure from the United States and the European Union. This means that before 2001, they could copy/steal any industrial technology they could get.

Back in the days of the Cold War, only the industrial patent agreements got some respect from the socialist countries. The art/photo/movie copyright was a very elusive matter in any socialist country, beyond the grasp of any agency from the capitalist countries.
I would add that during communism the Socialist Romania was in line with the international patent agreements, and when the communist government wanted, they financed the patent applications for Romanian inventions in other countries.
However, they invented a "catch"/"loop hole". Back in those days, in the Romanian industry/economy two concepts were played :
1. Invention - something new internationally
2. Innovation - something new nationally. That meant that you could steal an idea from elsewhere and suddenly you where the hero of an "innovation"! biggrin.gif
In early 1990 that "innovation" concept got the well deserved place in the history's trash bin.

In the intro of movie Cross of Iron (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0074695/), at 1:47 there are Romanian soldiers throwing grenades, and a soldier firing the ZB light machinegun.

The most interesting from criticalpast.com is a few seconds of film with two pilots who are still alive:
General de flotilă aeriană DAN STOIAN (second from left)

and General de escadră av. IOAN DOBRAN
