silistea gumesti air base

Few days ago I visited Silistea Gumesti A.B. My friend Mihai Atanasie Petrescu made some pictures. see it on http://www.ringo.com/photos/slideshow.html?albumId=42995195

My knowledge in geograf. is limited.
CAn you tell us where exactly the airfield is?

In Teleorman, north of Rosiorii de Vede

About 35 km north of Rosiorii de Vede. BTW, Marin Preda was born there

It's 150 km from Bucharest via Alexandria and Rosiorii de Vede and 94 km on the A1 highway to Corbii Mari and then on county roads (DJ) Gratia - Poeni - Tatarastii de Jos - Tatarastii de Sus - Silistea Gumesti.

The road from Bicharest to Rosiorii de Vede through Alexandria is spotless. I don't know about the county roads, but from experience they are very bad, although county roads in Teleorman tend to be good compared to other counties.

Or, when you go out from Rosiorii de Vede (to Caracal) turn right on 65A (Scrioastea, Dobrotesti, Balaci) 28-30 km. In Balaci turn right, once again, to Silistea Gumesti for 4 km.
The road is good except, the last 4 km.
The rail way for AB come from Balaci station.
Of course, visit is "free".

I am born here, on AB.
I hope, this year, to make some pictures, whith amunition store (if I'll foud something today) in NE of AB.

Actually good geographic software and maps from work.

I passed through Silistea-Gumesti last Monday. The road is curently under construction, so its just o strip of gravel. I suppose they will start pouring the asphalt after the foundation is done. It's like this all the way to Balaci. Better wait at least 6 months to let them finish it. The stretch through Dobrotesti is relatively OK for a county road(average number of holes).

Arriving on county roads to Silistea-Gumesti from the East (see my previous post) is a bad idea as they are absolutely horrible until crossing into Teleorman, near Tatarasti. From Tatarasti to Silistea-Gumesti the road is great (recently laid down).

My advice C-2, wait until autumn or take the Vitara.

To do all that trip with the Vitara,is a nightmare!
