After reading Ana Pauker's biography on Wikipedia (not that Wikipedia would be the most reliable source of information) only one question left to me:
Did she do any bad thing during the period she was in power? |

Yes. She kept the Communist system alive and well.

Actually, she did not "just" keep the system, she was among the first to implement it in Ro., unfortunately... -------------------- M

I think the comment about Jewish descendance has nothing to do with her actions or can you tell us otherwise? Kevin in Deva. |

I was so sure I shouldn't have said that... Except the fact that she came from a very poor family (her mother was a seamstress), her "Jewishness" never manifested. Perhaps as a handicap: supposedly, Stalin told her once why she wasn't chosen as secretary of RomComParty - she was a woman, jewish, intellectual. And after her demise, in the "national" phase of communism, she was also blamed for being of jew descendance.

Back to Annie: she told many times (as the good communist that she was) that she was atheist - "dialectic materialism" I believe it was the name... She was no more Jewish than Gheorghiu-Dej Orthodox. Is that OK now?

Well, please try to refrain from placing statements or comments
that is incorrect or cannot be verified at source in your posts, as it gives a slant to your posting, that could be taken for Anti-Jewish sentiment. Some people believe everything posted on the net and offer it as proof, to others that their opinions are correct. Kevin in Deva. ![]() |

-first woman who became a Minister in Romania -first woman in Europe (in the world?) who became a Minister of Foreign Affairs |

re: ranger: I already stated that. It is getting annoying now, and if you (nothing personal, you realise that) would have known a little more about the history of communism in Ro., you would have most definitely had another perspective. More than 3/4 of the first commies were alogens (of russian, hungarian, german, polish, ucrainian and even bulgarian origin, of course of other religions, too); only when entering the stage of "national communism" (now this is something to laugh at, as communism denied the very concept of nations), the leader (Gh. Gh.-Dej) tried to lay the blame on the foreigners, even better if they were jews. So, read Vladimir Tismăneanu's books (even his father's name was Tismeneţki) about the subject and THEN speak about anti-semitism. Of which I believe myself to be as far as possible. Or you were thinking about my affirmations (somehow unclear, I admit) in the light of the new Israeli-Palestinian conflicts, perhaps...

I was saying how your posts come across to an English speaking person,
with the way you worded them, if you have a problem with what I wrote, then perhaps you need to practice your English language construction more. Kevin in Deva. ![]() |
