In 1961 Vizanty was condemned to 5 years in prison, but I think he was released after one year and a half.

For them who tell I didn't use military archives for this book (evan I haven't to justify my work in front of anybody):

- I used personal / family archives including a lot of military documents;
- I used military documents find to CNSAS not to Military Archives in Pitesti;
- I also used military documents already published in another books or articles;

Here is the answer to me, from the military Archives in Pitesti, who tell that the personal officer file of Dan Vizanty don't exist anymore in their archives:

I also looked for his personal file in the Pitesti Military Archives about 10 years ago, but could not find it.

Since Vizanty defected to France, his personal file may have been transferred to the Securitate.

Yes, because I found some pages of his personal file (the years 41 - 44), in his Securitate file, to CNSAS.

Mr. Focsa, since I've not read your book, how did you handle Vizanty's claim that he shot down 12 four-engine US bombers?

Sincerely, I don't remember now exactly each victory of him, but what I found is 16 victories (43 or 46 in ARR system, this is not sure) and he pretended to shut down 4 german planes in Tcechoslovakia. But I didn't find that all 12 (until august 1944) were four-engines US bombers.

Interesting article, offering a somewhat different perspective. Only ond detail: I think the Polish example, referred to the Soviets, might not be the best. As far as I know, following the Soviet intervention/invasion in 17 September 1939, the Polish General Staff gave order to the troops to fall back from the East. Only in 2-3 instances did the Poles engage the Soviet aggressors (quite sucessful from the tactical point of view, but with no effect on the final outcome).
