Here are four fragments of the memoirs of actor and director Constantin Popian (1882-1969).
The first one, published in SMM no 8/204 is entitled Bravo, tinere recrut! and refers to his military service in 1903 with the 6th Guard Infantry Regiment Mihai Viteazul. A very enjoyable read IMO. The other three deal exclusivelly with the first three weeks of war for the reservist officer of the 3rd Battalion/42nd Infantry Regiment. A very honest and rather objective account of the fighting in the Sibiu area. 1. De, dom’le sublocotenent, asa e la razboi! from SMM no. 10/2004 2. Ah, cum bubuie tunul! from SMM no. 11-12/2004 3. No, draga, dar ai dumneavoastra n-au canone? from SMM no. 1/2005 Unfortunately they are only in Romanian and the online translators I tried are very inaccurate, because it contains many older words. Enjoy! |
