To my knowledge, there were no such awards. When the order was instituted in 1916 it had no swords. In 1938 King Carol II issued a decree according to which swords were introduced to all the Romanian war orders, the Order of Michael the Brave included. A new decree was however issued in 1941 that reverted many of the modifications introduced by the 1938 decree, including the swords of the Michael the Brave Order. It seems that some badges with swords were produced before 1941, but they were not awarded.

Okay. I guess that explains the examples seen on collections and occasionally seen offered for sale.

Was the Soviet Army the only foreign country to receive the Michael the brave order 1944? What about the 2nd and 1st classes... did any americans or britains receive one of the 44 awards?

There were several officers that received the MV Order model 1941 and model 1944. What rank was he? What service?

There was a lt. ® Tiberiu Stoenescu (mountain troops) that received both awards. The only other lieutenant that received them was Radu Balacescu, who was killed in 1944 in Transylvania.
