Hello all,
I am new to the forum. I collect orders and decorations and several years ago acquired a 1st type Michael the brave 1st class numbered 17. I have not been able to research who the awardee was. I see that 16 were awarded during WW1 so this would have been an early WW2 award. I will take pictures of this order if anynone would like to see it. My question is; can anyone tell me who this 1st class Michael the brave belonged to? |

Well, it is a little bit difficult to say who was the 17th.
According to records it was marshal Antonescu who received the 17th (and the last) model 1916 1st class of the Mihai Viteazul Order. However, as head of the Order, King Carol II before him must have been decorated with it. But I do not know if a new 1st class was given to him or the 1st class of King Ferdinand I was passed on to him along with the crown. So, take your pick Carol II or Antonescu. |

I wouldn't think it would be either of the two.
I read on the forum that 16 were awarded in WW1. Does this included all of the foreign awardees as well? |

During WW1, only two Romanians received the award: Prezan and Averescu. King Ferdinand I also had one, as founder and master of the Order. The rest were foreigners. There is also the list here:
