Carol 1, you are definantly a serious collector and scholar of ODM's. I congratulate you for your serious research of Romanian medals.

Thank you for your appreciation.

First, The Aeronautical virtue in almost all cases was worn before the Order of the Star during War time. During the 1930's, you find it before or after the Star order. I really do not know why. I see that in photographs and examples of Air Force bars that I have in my collection.

I could answer to this question. The Aeronautical Virtue Order moved a lot among the other Romanian orders. When it was established, it was the fourth order, just above the Order of the Star, but below the Orders of Carol I, Ferdinand I and Michael the Brave. In 1937, following the inclusion of the personal orders of Carol II it became seventh in the hierarchy. Then, in 1938 it was downgraded to the ninth position (after the Order of the Crown), but in 1941 its importance increased again, both by bringing it back to its original position (before the Order of the Star) and by removing the dynastic orders form the list of "war" orders. Thus, the position of the Aeronautical Virtue Order among the other Romanian orders could be a way of dating the photos in your collection.

Not quite. Even though it was downgraded, some aviators kept wearing their special award as it used to be.

You mean there were instances between 1938 and 1941 when the aviators wore the Aeronautical Virtue Order before the Order of the Star? This is indeed interesting.

Very interesting order bars. Do you know whom they have belonged (all or at least some of them)?
