The photo is unclear, since the negative was hidden for many years.
I got it from an ex army ing.A Sitaru. While demining around Iasi in 45 ,he found the remains of two Russian soldiers, killed after stepping over a mine Attached Image |

It appears to be the photo of a highly decorated German officer. |

Those photos are fakes, namely modern reproductions made to look old and if they would come from some sort of 'secret' archives. Basically someone got hold of two old, Soviet-era stamps and he/she/they is/are producing huge quantities of repro photos, using published photos, which are then sold as original, old photos. Buyers beware! Gen. Dénes |

Is this a Rumanian soldier? Or rather an Italian?
Seen on the Eastern Front (from eBay). Gen. Dénes |

Hello Dénes,
The man is an Italian soldier. He is wearing a M 33 helmet, the unique Italian ammo rig of the M 91 pattern (with pouches carried close to each other) and what seems to be a Carcano bolt-action rifle. The image is too small to enable proper ID of the bayonet scabbard and frog. The uniform is the greyish green M 40, with wool tunic, breeches and puttees. Ruy |

Below are two scans of original negatives from my collection. They were taken at an airfield near Bucharest (perhaps Popesti-Leordeni?), during the war.
Can anyone identify the high-ranking officers? The officer at left is Gen. esc. av. Gheorghe Jienescu. The other two appear to be Army officers. Gen. Dénes P.S. Sorry for the heavier than usual watermark, but only recently I discovered a pair of photos "borrowed" from my site, without mentioning the source.
