I made two fighter kits in Romanian inmatriculation but i don't know the pilot name who flew with.
First one is an Me 109G4 white seven having a white tail having on the nose a drawing with Mickey Mouse riding.I remember (hope well) that it was a Gr7 plane. It's quite famous because in most major books about Arr the plane picture is represented. I found in one of these books that it was one of Dicezare's plane, no mention in the others. Second one is a PZL 11c number 315. Third is a Bf 109 G6 white 13. I think i saw a picture with that plane but don't remeber the pilots name. Forth is the question if Cantacuzino last victory claim was on the Me 109 G6 Erla hood red 2? Does anyone knows something about the pilots that flew them? Many Thanks Bm |

That particular airplane was flown often by Lt. av. Tudor Greceanu of Grupul 7 vânatoare, between February 1 and June 23, 1944 (see photo on the inside cover of my Squadron/Signal book on ARR).
Yes, on February 25, 1945. |

'White 7' of Gr. 7 vân. had an accident in August '43 with Adj. av. Ioan Vanca at the controls and was returned to the Germans. There was another No. 7 (no colour given, but probably white), flown by Lt. av. C-tin Rosariu, while member of the 'Deutsch-Rum. Jagdverband', who had an accident with it on 19 March '43.
P.Z.L. P.11c No. 315 was written off in October 1943. |

Dear Denes,
Like usual your answers are on top. Thank you again. About the plane written off in 1943, the white? 7 was painted in dark green (don't know the RLM code) and i saw some pictures with it in the Hors serie of AirMagazine "Les Bf 109 roumains". It had a pair of 20mm canons under the wing (i don't remember the canon name, but I think that the plane was known as Bf109 G4/R2) Indeed the kit had this inmatriculation, but sawing in several pictures the G4 white 7 painted in two types of grey with white tail , I decided to make that one. From those picture i thaught that there were taken in spring 1944. Thank You also for the PZL information, the 315 being the last kit built. Do you know if it was used in any combats or it was used only as a trainer??? And for the G6 red 2 I read from other books that it wasn't Cantacuzino's plane. Yours, Bm |

The PZL 11 C nr 315 was used as school training fighter on Ghimbav airfield ( '42 -'43 ) near Brasov.

With rare exceptions, there was no fighter airplane specially assigned to a certain pilot, certainly not during the anti-Axis campaig, where there was a shortage of aircraft. That particular day, Febr. 25, 1945, Cpt. av. Cantacuzino did fly 'Red 2', W.Nr. 166169. What you've read in the Rumanian publication AeroMagazin regarding this issue is incorrect. |

I agree, Cantacuzino, there is no contradiction here. The only note I have is that not only Bucharest-Otopeni air base had concrete runway (e.g. Zilistea, too).

And of course it wasn't a G4 the white 7 since it hadn't the "bumps" over the upper wings. It was a G2, sorry. Same, after searching, the G2/R2 was a recon plane.

Not only the concrete airfield, but also the big hangar in the background of the " white 7" convince me that the picture could be taken in the spring'44 at Otopeni, were 53sq. was located for a short period. :keep:

Bernard i made more research for the pilots who flew PZL 11C nr.315 and I found this data:
1. On july 13, 1942, Sgt. Marinciu Ioan flew it in a training raid on the route R.Sarat-Adjud-R.Sarat. 2. In september on 3, 4, 8, 10 and 13 ( 5 days) 1942, Slt.Balta Constantin flew it in training lessons ( Immelman, tonneau and other aerobatics) on the Calarasi ( Ialomita) school airfield. 3. On september 24, 1943 Slt. Popescu Greaca flew it in trainig lessons on Ghimbav school airfield. PZL 11 C nr.315 was from the batch of PZL's left in 1939 by polish pilots retreat in Romania. The engine is Bristol Mercury. Two of the pilots who flew it are still living. One, Popescu Greaca is in Breaza- Prahova and the other, Marinciu Ioan is living in Bucharest. |
