http://www.mainbattletanks.czweb.org/indexeng.htm

here they have a list with a ton of tanks divided into countries of origin, and a rather lenghty description of the TR85-M1 tank. Unfortunately it's all in czech sad.gif . Pics are nice however smile.gif .

This is a rather subjective question. There are dozens of new tank prototypes being developed or used in testing by various countries. Some were tested, and production is pending, some didn't pass the tests but a few units have already been delivered to their customers.
Do we include these in our discussion or do we limit ourselves to Main Battle Tanks already in use?

In terms of established MBT's used by the West - there are a few big players: Leopard 2, Challenger 2, Leclerc, M1A2 Abrams.
I'm sure there are others, though...

They all hover in the 60-80 tons weight range.

If anybody knows of some other ones or of some cool prototypes, please share with us.

The most efficient MBT is not now because the most important tanks,M1A2 ,Leopard 2,Leclerc,Challenger2,T 90,never fight one against other.I believe the T90 is the better at this moment, because she can fire with guided-autoguided missiles,9 in to a very short period, against 9 diferent targets,to a same distance to west thanks. The russian tank have the equipment to cross river who can be mounted in 20 minutes, and have a much low weight(aprox.55 tones),who make him much manouverable in the accidental terrain, than bigger western tanks. It is manufactured from european terrain, much than western tanks.
