Which was the blackest day for IAR 80/81?
In my view it was 21 May 1944 |

To me it's clearly April 21, 1944, the first time the I.A.R. 80/81 pilots encountered the P-51B/C Mustang in battle:
Gr. 1 vân: 6 a/c destroyed, 5 dead; Gr. 2 vân.: 4 a/c destroyed, 2 dead; Gr. 6 vân.: 4 a/c destroyed, 4 dead; Gr. 7 vân.: min. 6 a/c destroyed, 5 dead; ------------------------------------------- Total: min. 20 a/c destroyed, 16 pilots dead. Col. Dénes |
