I have read manny books - some pre '89, some after '89. I don't find anny data about an important sniper. I read about an verry skilled "pushcash mitralior" who downed (? correct expression?) 3 airplane. Finnaly died in fights. This is from pre '89 book. Not from Dumitru Almas propaganda smile.gif

There were snipers, but I heard not of professionals.

A sniper in trenches at Don. The rifle is a Mosin-Nagant model 1891/30 with a PE sight, better than the standard ZB rifles issued for the Army.

It was a propaganda photo (see the lower right corner). They were supposed to act happy.

Hi,
I am a gun collector in Texas. Just stumbled across this forum and this post. Thought I would share a picture of a rifle in my collection. It is an original post war Romanian Sniper rifle made from a Czech VZ24 Mauser. Mount is original and was made by IOR. Scope is not original. It is a Zeiss Zeilmulti Variable Scope. I have been unable to find an original scope and the Zeiss was the most likely replacement I could find. The original scope would have been one also made by IOR of Romania. Would love to hear from forum members on any history about the construction or use of these rifles. John from Texasuser posted image

Generally the Romanian sharpshooters used captured Mosin-Nagants, VZ 24s.

Was there during the war an intense Romanian sniper activity? What was the difference between a sniper and a regular soldier armed with a rifle.

Am uitat sa intreb ce fel de arme cu luneta foloseau lunetisti romani.
Sorry nu am intrebat in celalalt mesaj

As mentioned in this very thread, the prefered weapon of the Romanian snipers was the Soviet Mosin-Nagant model 1891/30 with PE sight.

Please write in English.

During that period there were no rifles mass produced for sniping purposes, the snipers' rifles were just regular rifles with sniper optical sight attached.

The site is both in English and Romanian. The site and the forum were built to share the information with the entire world, not just between Romanians.
