Not in WW2. The current sniper rifle in use in the Romanian army is the PSL aka SSG-97 or Romak-3. It is built on the Kalahnikov technology and is intended for infantry support between 400-700 m. Posting in English is mentioned in the forum rules. |

Didn't the Romanian army have in mind to form elite sniper units?

I can't think of any army during World War II that formed sniper units per se. The U.S. Marine Corps had a slot for a sniper attached to company headquarters (I'll double check on this), and certain elite forces (i.e. British Commandos and SAS, U.S. Rangers) were trained at sniping. I get the impression that the Soviets, Germans and most other armies simply formed sniper teams of 2-3 men outside of any official organization table. I would guess that the Romanians did the same thing. |

Maybe they had some Kar98 Scoped rifles(but the German Army had no sniper units,so that wepon wasn't so popular on the frontline.Still there were some soldiers who did sniping for plesure,in the 1'st line of battle. In the city areas the germans were using sniper technics, but not allways with scoped rifles)! The romanian sniper-rifles were called ZB,and I heard they were not so great. But the best sniper-rifle used by our trups was the Mosin-Nagant,from the russians.

The main practical difference between the ZB and the Kar98k was the backsight. For ZB the gradations were starting from 300 meters, making it a less suitable weapons for accurate shooting (Kar98K's backsight was starting from 100 meters). I presume the snipers were usually targeting below 300 m.
