I need as much info I can get on this date, the USAAF attacked romanai with B17 bombers, aparently 6 were shot down (confirmed) and 1 probable - all by IAR-80/81's.THe reason I need all the info I can get (both about ARR and USAAF) is because we want to make a small movie about this event, using IL2 FB game to do it.
Thanks !~ |

Yes I have it, this is where I first read about 23 june and got the ideea for the movie, unfortunatelly the info is too little.I spoke to Mr. Dan Antoniu and we will search his archives for more data, however if any of you has any info at all about that pls let me know
BTW: does anyone know how USAF Foggia base looked like at the time ? some photos of that place would help a lot :] Thanks !~ PS: here is a link to a movie I made (it is actually an experiment to see what tools are required to make a short movie) http://www.netwings.org/library/Forgotten_...os/index-4.html movie name is "Flight of IAR-81c" |

The same day, from the 9th Fighter Group were shot down lt. av . Teodor Greceanu and adj. av. Dumitru Encioiu, both being wounded in action. Dumitru Encioiu claimed a P-51, but wasn't confirmed.
THe 7th Fighter Group lost its CO, cpt. av. Virgil 'Lampa' Trandafirescu, and cpt. av. Dan Scurtu and adj. av. Casian Tedorescu were wounded. |

Excellent 'clip', Mytzu. It's really cool - as they say. If I understood correctly, in the last battle scene an '81 shots down a P-51, which looses its starboard wing. If that's the case, then it's a major discrepancy, as no I.A.R. 80/81 shot down (confirmed) a P-51 Mustang ever... Col. Dénes |

Actually it was a bunch of 3 stangs shootin' a poor old IAR-81 and choping its wing off unfortunatelly I wasn't able to make a better quality of the movie with the encoder I used. Also the fps were too low when trying to capture the immage.
Anyway, as I said this was only a test something not historically correct, I did all that in only 3 hours (including building the missions for it) now I want to do the real thing and that is why I started to gather info.Atm I was looking for info about USAAF based in Foggia area, see how the airfields looked like, the vegetation, the terrain, etc. BTW: there was one confirmed stang kill by an IAR80, cannot remember where I read it but I will try to find the info again. |

Then I misunderstood the scene (anyhow, the planes were quite small). Nevertheless, the 'clip' looks excellent.
That's interesting, indeed. Can you check the source and give us details? Thanks, Col. Dénes |

Thank you for your words.
About the stang and IAR80, I was wrong - it was not a confirmed but a probable (I searched all morning trying to remember in what book I read about it then finally I started searching the website http://www.worldwar2.ro/arr/g1vt.htm ):

Yes, I knew about Adj. stag. av. Sava Zissu's unconfirmed victory on 28-Jun-44, but I wasn't aware of any confirmed victory by an '80 pilot.
Another '80s pilot, Adj. av. Constantin Popescu, also claimed a Mustang, without being confirmed, however. Yet another veteran, Slt. Mihai Bulat from Brasov (attention C-2 & Victor!), claims to have shot down a Mustang, but I could find no official trace of his claim yet. Col. Dénes |

I'm surprised someone as interested as you in aviation and with so much archive material does not have this simulator. It's the most realistic to date, with flyable IAR-80's, something which if remember correctly even the forum administrator was interested in.. As i have ordered your book on Romanian Aces, perhaps you too might be interested in this simulator. It's not 'that' addictive, but quite realistic and interesting. We'll talk about pilot Agarici and copyright some other time. The picture you send I'm not sending to anyone without your permission. It would be a good idea to have it on www.arr.go.roin the pilot section (with your BIG copyright mark on the bottom) so we know where it came from. o:) |

I deliberately avoided to get 'addicted' to flying simulators, as my hands are full with writing various books and articles.
You can send it, no problem, as long as the minimal requirement - namely to mention/keep the source on the scan - is met.
I'll pass on your sarcastic remark... :? As a sidenote, the administrator of this forum places his copyright hallmark right across the middle of the scans, while I posted it only on its bottom. Col. Dénes |

:offtopic: You should update your bookmarks, because the real address of the ARR site is www.worldwar2.ro/arr , not arr.go.ro from where it is redirected.
There were only very few cases. |

Cosntantin Balta also claimed a Mustang shot down after the war in several interviews, but there is no record of it even in his flight book. |

Maybe you find some info in the book "Inimi cat sa cuprinda cerul patriei" - Cornel Marandiuc (?). I have this book. If you don't have it, i try to send some text. Iamandi |
