QUOTE (C-2 @ Sep 4 2004, 04:01 PM)
He was stupid enought to send his best men ,dressed in American uniforms, speaking lauzy Eanglish,to infiltrate in the US army during the battle of the Arddenes. Only few of them were not shoot.

Stupid or not stupid, the move created enough havoc and suspicion in the rear of the American lines. Even Eisenhower wrote in his memories that at the check points the soldiers annoyed the officers with endless checking to see if they are "real". I do not remember from the "Crusade in Europe" if Eisenhower himself had such an experience.

Also the regular German paratroopers (not SS) had many missions in the rear of the American lines, but I forgot if they wore their real uniforms.

There is no evidence Skorzeny was stupid. There are people who dare smear great DEAD heroes names in ignorance. So I will stand up for him.

Skorzeny was a hero and very intelligence. Do some research.

Hero or not, he was called "The most dangerous person in Europe".
That was a very big over estimation.
His only real achivment was the Mussolini case.
I red his memoirs (If you can call this a "research").
Nothing was grandios there.
I call a hero ,a man like Rudel,Wittman or Gunther Lutzow.
They all did the fighting by themself.

You're wrong...

Osvobozhdenie - and Florin Piersic played Skorzeny.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0151852/

He has indeed his 15 minutes of glory as they played really nice the Mussolini rescue operation.

An interesting thing: in his memories, Skorzeny braggs a little over a group of German soldiers left behind the Soviet lines in the beginning of 1945 (not purposefully, but rather left behind uncaptured) with which he held radio contact and encouraged them to fight on. A Soviet information officer (after he defected or emigrated in the western world tongue.gif ), in his memories, claims that was an intoxication, as the Germans were captured really fast but a fake radio cooperation was maintained in order to make the German FHO and Abwehr to spend their already scarce resources by chasing wild geese! I tend to believe the Soviet officer - I cannot remember his exact name right now, but I've read his memories some ten years ago.

His name is SUDOPLATOV. I also read his memories. I think it was the Operation Monastirka or something like that.

His most stupid action was to send his man on the eastern front to rescue an unit who was fighting behind the russians lines / in fact it was an soviet trap :blbl:

I said that five years ago tongue.gif

Yep. Pavel Sudoplatov. Do you think he was right, not Skorzeny?
