A Slovak colleague of mine has asked me the following question:
Hptm. (Romanian airforce) Vasile G. Popãrdu (resp. Popãrda), born March 17, 1903 Dragomiresti – Judetul, Neamt. Awarded by commander of 1st Slovak infantry division on March 14, 1944 “For bravery 3rd class” (Za hrdinstvo 3. stupňa). Why was he awareded with this medal? What was his action? As a officer attached to operational stab he was looking for the Slovakian units which were supported well thanks to his person. Does anyone know this Cpt. av. Popãrdu/Popãrda? |

Denes,
Something is wrong here;acording to IDC,and he's never wrong,Vasile Poparda was a low life ,a jirk and practicaly nobody.... He was suposed to be a leader of a fighter squadron, but somehow he managed not to get into combat and flew a Fleet in a liaison squadron. He was a captain since 37 or 38 but never got furdher. Nobody liked him and Jienescu detested him. IDC was very suprised when he heard his name since nobody talks about him... God knows how he got this distingtion.... |
