Try http://www.retromobil.ro/bursa-hobby/bursa.html, maybe there is something there. Unfortunately it is only in Romanian.
Hint: the first car for sale (1700 Euros) is ex military. If you have problems understanding some of the adds, e-mail me. |

Victor,
Think it might be how to find vehicles left over from WWI or WWII? Guessing the Soviets didn't leave much behind after 1945. Rob |

In Romania you can find everything...
Sometimes ads apear in neuspapers with old vehicals but they are rare. I met a few months ago a German who found a Zundapp but in bad cond. But chances are small. About 25 years ago a met in a Village near Campu Lung a farmer who had a VW amfibia in bad shape but he was working with it as with a tractor.... Two years later I saw the VW cut in two . The farmer had no way to find new tires for it and other spares ,so in order to have more space in his yard he cut it... |

Any chance finding a Bf 109G used as crop duster? Or, perhaps, a Savoia 79 used as barn? Dénes |

Till the end of my life I'll say it again and again:there must be a 109 in Romania!
In a lake,in a forest in the mountains or hidden somewere! it must be! |

I am also 100% sure there are airplane wrecks somewhere in Rumania, particularly in the mountains or in a lake. For example, a Polish guy wrote to me that he recently saw the remnants of a Liberator in the Carpathians while he was hiking, but he would not give me the location. Also, years ago, there was a Bf 109 wing removed (by accident!) from the Black Sea. There are loss reports that state a certain airplane sunk in a lake or disappeared in the mountains. Etc.
Unfortunately, there is no organized (and financially viable) wreck researching group in Rumania, which could seriously look for these hidden gems. Dénes |

Well the Liberator wreck is most likely in the Fagaras, Iezer-Papusa, Leoata, Bucegi, Baiului, Piatra Craiului Mountains. That surely makes it easier to find it!

I know a WV from the war that belongs to a peasant, but he modified the car and uses it to carry potatoes from the field to the market. It has an ARO engine fitted and looks like a wreck, with wooden plates added to increase the storage capacity. It's a pathetic piece of junk.
I saw a german motocycle in a village in Ialomitza, almost completely destroyed, used as a toy for that man's kids. And a german truck used as a shelter for cickens, when it became unfixable after 40 years of use for carrying wood, stones and fertilizers. But I saw a jeep (WW2 type) driving on the road a few weeks ago. And the driver told me it's not the only one (we talked breafly at a red light), there are 5 in Romania, owned by private collectors. |

Fascinating thread...
In Romania, I think even the armed forces - legally or semi-legally - sell some of their surplus equipment, you just have to ask/look for it. Of course, they remove all weapons and electronics before selling them. Recently, a friend was tellling me someone he knew had bought an APC (TAB) from some garrison and was driving it around on rural roads. It didn't occur to me to ask him how and where he got it from. About WWII vehicles, I'm sure there are still quite a few of them in Romania, but once again, you pretty much have to go through all the God forsaken villages and ask about them. I saw a documentary on Discovery about American WWII pilot veterans who had been shot down over Ploiesti. In the 1990's, they returned to Romania to find the remains of their planes. Apparently, they were able to find quite a few pieces, now mostly owned by peasants in villages around Ploiesti. |

Many planes crashed in Romania, but the bad part is that the people destroyed or took avrything ! and if remained something, if is made from metal, the gipsy tookit to the scrap iron collecting centers.
The only chances to find somthing is if the plane is burried, or sunk. Or maby deep in a forest, or the a mountain. |

They must be wery well hiden! I saw once a sheep farm (stana) who had it's roof made from metal plates taken from an airplane crushed in WW2. And this was high in the mountains.

I think that trehe are also other vehicules and weapons in the mountains, not just crashed planes. If you want to find one you just have to talk to some friends, take some metal detectors and go hiking in the mountains. As you start to climb you could ask the local vilagers if they know something about something. I would go on such a trip but......I'm very short on money, and metal detectors don't grow on trees

Speaking about metal detectors, see the thread: http://www.worldwar2.ro/forum/index.php?showtopic=1198
