I just talked with Gen Dobran(who's never home, always playing Bridge somewhere..)
Anomg others he told me about a pilot named Tolan(who lives now in Germany and is a doctor). This guy was famous for shooting 2 planes:a German 110(before 23/8/44) and a IAR 39 near Constanta. Together with another pilot named Ilinca ,they had a home made airplane powered by a motorcycle eangine, who flew about 90 km/h. They use to cut off the eangine,to glide over the airfield and to shout:"isdinner ready?" and if the answer was positive they'd land. Once after 23/8 they went to see sone fighting between Germans and Russians in a certain railway station and flew so low and so slow that were hit .They got back to the airfield but made a crash landind and the plane was a total lost. Tolan was crying around the plane "my beautiful plane ,my beautiful plane". Maybee some of our German members can get his phone number.. Can't be many Tolans in Germany... |

That's pretty funny. I feel sad for the loss of his little plane.
Why did not some ARR or Luftwaffe technicians get to work and build him a new one? Any idea where this Tolan is located in Germany? Maybe Ingolstadt, which has a fairly large Romanian community, maybe not.. |
