Thanks again, Victor. Is Cihoski the general who is still around in the 1940s? I seem to recall a Cihoski from much later.

Yes, Cihoski was still alive during WW2, but wasn't active. He died later in the Communist prison at Sighet.

Thanks for both those replies, Victor. I still know Cihoski's name from somewhere, so I presume it's from the Sighet incident. I seemto recall a number of people were detained there.

In case you are interested in a particular unit and period, dragos03 has a complete list of WW1 division commanders (he has an excellent book that covers every aspect of Romania in WW1).

Such list would be very valuable to me. Can you publish it here? If not, let me know and we can work out something by email if necessary.
Thanks,
Rich

11th Infantry Division - gen Muica, replaced after the battle from Merisor pass by gen Cocorascu)

I have stumbled upon a Colonel Dumitru Cocarascu as the commander of the 11th Infantry Division in October 1916.

QUOTE (Victor @ Sep 10 2004, 08:26 PM)
the CO of the 1st Infantry Division was Ioan Dragalina, who rose to the command of the 1st Army by late 1916. He was unfortunately KIA on the Jiu Valley. He was one of the most capable Romanian commanders of the time.

Some details about the circumstances surrounding the death of Gen. Dragalina in 1916 (in Romanian only):

Cum a murit generalul Dragalina?

The full name was Constantin Scarisoreanu and he was promoted to the rank of brig. gen. that autumn and awarded the Mihai Viteazul Order 3rd class.

I will also list other commanders I found:
1. col. Ioan Florescu - 3rd Calarasi Brigade in 1916, Mihai Viteazul Order 3rd class
2. brig. gen. Dumitru Lambru - 21st Infantry Division in 1916, Mihai Viteazul Order 3rd class
