In your article about Gr 1 Vt the rank of the commander Ioan Sandu is captain. In fact he was Cpt Comandor (he was 44 years old). He was the highest ranked romanian pilot who died on a fighter plane.

I can confirm the rank of Ioan V. Sandu as Capitan Comandor aviator, at the time of his death on June 23, 1944. Reportedly, he was gunned down by an American airman while descending in his parachute.
Yes, he was the highest ranking Rumanian fighter pilot to die in combat. BTW, that particular day was really a black one for the Rumanian vânatori... Col. Dénes |
