There was a Steel Panthers scenario titled Zajta (an Hungarian city) and according to the scenario description, a large tank battle between Hungarian and Romanian troops took place there involving hundreds of tanks. Can anyone tell me more about this battle and what tanks were primarily used? From what I know, there were lots of PzIV and StuG's on the Romanian side.

I played the scenario on East Front II... The Romanians are on the offensive; they have some PZ IVH, Stug III's, TACAM R-2's and some PSW's. The rest are 150mm Field guns, 88mm AA guns, 75mm AT guns, 25mm AA guns... Plus trucks with "rifle platoons" and "MG platoons".
The Hungarians have Turan I's, Turan II's, Csabas, Nimrods, Toldi I's & II's, 50mm AT guns, 75 mm AT guns, 105mm Field guns, "rifle platoons", "MG platoons", "ATR platoons", "Engineer platoons", Sdkfz's, 81mm mortars, 37mm AT guns... That's what I remember... Best regards, Getu' |

Sorry to disappoint you, but there were no such engagements. Romania did not employ too many tanks in the anti-Axis campaign.
If this battle took place, on the Romanian side was most likely the 4th Army's Armored Group. It consisted of a recon company (5 armored cars, a section of amphibious VW and Horch cars), one tank battalion (a company with 10xT-4, a company with 8xTAs and a company with 16xTACAM R-2), a motorized vanatori battalion, an AT company (12x75 mm Resita AT gun), a motorized heavy artillery battalion, a pioneer company, an AA company (25 mm Hotchkiss AA guns), a communications platoon and a service company. |

Hungary lost almost all her "Turan" tanks when they took part to the fights targeting to obtain a bridgehead over a big river in Ukraine. That was in 1941 or 1942. I said "big river" because I forgot which one.

I live in the NW part of Romania, about 35-40 km from the border with Hungary and I never heard about a big battle near Zajta. Non of the locals have said anything about this battle. Maybe it was just a regular battle and nothing more.
