See confirmation of order for Starachowice factory - parts for 40 mm AA guns: łoża górne i dolne (sorry - I can't translate!). For Great Britain - 40, for Netherlands - 20. Note the date! From Starachowice archives.

A bit off topic: Does anybody know if Czechoslovakia (Skoda) made any Bofors 40 mm AA guns during WW 2. They purchased the license rights in 1938. I have an unconfirmed note that Belgium (FN) exported Bofors guns to Czechoslovakia.

There are no similiar mentions in article "La FN et les canons Bofors", written by E. Demaret, or in "The 40 mm Bofors Gun" by T. J. Gander.

Nothing about export, some general information about production, mostly data concerning construction (and drawings&photos). I will prepare scans, and send you pages the most interesting (I hope. wink.gif )

Stellan and woj, excellent information on the Bofors AA gun !

Let me add the entry on this gun from the Macmillan dictionary of the Second World War:

QUOTE
Bofors Gun Light, rapid-firing 40mm anti-aircraft cannon, which had an effective range of about 12,500ft and fired either armour-piercing or high-explosive shell. Developed in Sweden, it was used by many belligerents in WW2, including Poland, France, Britain and the United States. The Germans also employed captured Bofors guns. Produced in air- or water-cooled versions, they were originally drawn on wheeled trailers but were increasingly in demand as self-propelled, aircraft or naval weapons. The Bofors was the most effective light AA gun of the war, but it was always in short supply and available only to high priority units before 1944.

Can any of you provide a good picture and technical specifications table, to be added to the list of AA guns used by Romanian army on the site?

Dear Dragos
(= the nickname of my CO Col Drakenberg in the R Sw Army).

I have all data on the Bofors guns. Will translate.

I will also try to find a GOOD picture,

But after some hours in my local pub-perhaps better tomorrow.

Join PM Churchill in the Bofors fan club (attached) (Picture source: Bofors 350 år, Stockholm 1996).

Thank you! Please send the materials via email (you can find the address on the footer of the main website's pages). The picture should include the gun only, preferably a museum picture, and, of course, with permission to use.
