It is not the replica belonging to the National Military Museum, but to the Air Force Museum. But neither this one is an exact replica unfortunately.

I got some photos from the last air shows at Mihai Cogalnicieanu Air Base showing that a few IAR-80's other than trainer version are still preserved ( see photos) Finally I am unable to follow your link in order to buy your book at Amazon....will u be more accurate ?

The photo shows a full scale I.A.R. 80 replica, not the real machine.

Check the following link for my books listed on amazon.de:

That is teh replica belonging to the Air Force Museum at Otopeni. Unfortunately, although intended to (but lacked funding), it isn't flyable. The engine is an original, but the structure isn't able to take the stress of flight.

Man Thanks Victor but tell me something .....isnt the photo taken at Mihael Cogalniceanu AIr Base rather than Otopeni Airport ?

Thanks
Alex

The replica is occasionally taken to air shows on static displays. However, its "home" is in the museum located near the Bucuresti-Ploiesti National Road 1, right next to exit leading to the Henri Coanda International Airport. It has a IAR-823 by the gate, which is impossible to miss. The IAR-80 is located between the aviation exhibits building and the AAA and radar exhibits building.

Many thanks, how did you recognise the airfield, the pilots and the flight gear origin you just mentioned ? let me know details.....any chance to obtain clear ME-109 cockpit photos and eventually HS-129 cockpit photos ?
Alex

Romanian aviation history is my hobby for about 20 years. I have all the books written about it, knew many wwII pilots and have a true love with IAR80-81 plane( BTW i am building a 1/5 scale radio control replica ) So I know the source of many photo like the one in question.

An article about flyng gear for romanian aviation was published in "Modelism" magazine and in the book " Aviatia Romana in wwII " at the same editor.

For what model of Me-109 you need cockpit photo ( Emil or Gustav) ?

Since you nick is Cantacuzino I have a specific quoetion for ya mate :

What actually happened with Cantacuzino in Spain. Did he have a flight accident or did he die on a hospital bed? There are many rumors about him, but nobody knows his true destiny... Can you help?

Alex

Cantacuzino died in hospital in Spain. An article with personal and military activity of the great Prince Cantacuzino, was written in romanian aviation magazine " Aeromagazin" ( in 2 issues) with rare pictures and color profiles of his planes .

The reasons why I started to study and write about the history of the Rumanian aviation are detailed in the foreword of both of my books. It all started about 20 years ago, when I was a university student at Brasov - former base of the famous I.A.R. Works.

Yes, both my mentioned books are extensively illustrated with photos and colour profiles of aircraft.

For an illustrated list of all my books (except for the last one), please visit the following page on my web site:
http://aviatia.cda.ro/denes/Books_Denes.html

When you'll receive the books ordered on Amazon.de, I'd be delighted if you would post your impressions here. There is a separate thread on this forum dealing with my Osprey book, check out earlier messages.
