Rank of Comodor

An interesting feature in the ranks of ARR is the rank of comodor.
At 1st site it would seem normal to have such a rank because the ranks of generals in WW2 times were only 3, ( Gen. de escadra, Gen. comandor, Gen. inspector al Aviatiei) but the uniform features show that it was similar to the rank of colonel "de stea". More specifically, the cuff stripes were of comandor but the collar taps and the visor cap were the model for generals. As an explanation, the colonel "de stea" rank was granted to a colonel that held the comand of a brigade or a divizion. The epaulets were of colonel but the visor cap, the collar taps and the trousers' stripes were of general; they were called "de stea" because of the star posted on the general sun of the visor cap and it seems that this was more an unofficial name but the position existed.

The title was usually give to colonels who had passed the brigadier general exam, but there were not yet general positions available to promote them.
