IAR 80 Info needed, IAR 80 series

Can anyone help me to locate some cockpit photos of all most advance IAR models..also does anyone knows to what fighter group did the attached IAR-80 was belonging to ? Where IAR-80's markings ever painted in red ?

Alex, I never knew of any red markings and I am afraid that the picture you posted has something wrong with the redness, the light brown of the camouflage is looking suspiciously reddish.
I have two limited quality pictures of the cockpit that I will scan and email you direct tomorrow.

I have also found a photo taken most probably in Ukraine or near Stalingrad front , it doesn't seems to be from a Roumanian airfield not only due to heavy winter conditions but also specific pilot apparel for such condition which was mostly worn by the Luftwaffe pilot

Wrong !!!! in the picture we can see IAR 81C ( Grup 6 Van.) with Lt. Baciu and Lt. Ianculescu . The picture was taken in january ' 44 on Popesti-Leordeni airfield.
The IAR 81C were sent to the units (from Brasov) autumn '43. The Stalingrad campaign was in winter '42-'43. The pilots winter suits were romanian made tip.

Thanks for the ME-109 cockpit .....I wish would have been a little clearer and coloured. Its seems that they employed newer type of Head Up Dispplays...boresigts ......cockpit seems to have advanced flight instruments .....when I was a kid I had a ME-109 pilot ops hand book in colour from the manufacturer Messerschmidt Werke Augsburg which I got from my uncle in Bucharest....what a pitty I have lost it.

Tell me please does Roumania of today still have on their museums a ME-109 , HS-129 ( was a great twin air to ground acf) and JU88? If yes any chance to get some photos ? Also how can I buy your book about the history of ARR in WWII ? By chance I was borned in Boucharest......left Roumania in 1963 with my parents to Israel and become later a military pilot on F-16 and by now I am just a reservist and an airline pilot....funny course of the irrony huh ? I was borned exactly on Aug 1 exactly 7 years after tidalwave......my uncle was captain doctor with the anti aircraft radar units which intercepted the Tidalwave acfts,,,,,etc etc

Finally Israeli Air Force made some great photos last August with Roumanian AF on joint low altitude flying with C-130 and CH-53 helos...wana see them ?

Many thanks, how did you recognise the airfield, the pilots and the flight gear origin you just mentioned ? let me know details.....any chance to obtain clear ME-109 cockpit photos and eventually HS-129 cockpit photos ? who was the roumanian manufacturer of the pilot gear at that time in Roumania ? do you have clear photos with pilot flight of the roumanian AAR of that time ? Beside being a reservist military pilot and a current airline pilot , I own an American Military Flight Gear company in Switzerland since many years...I was borned in Bucharest and left Roumania in 1963.

Since you nick is Cantacuzino I have a specific quoetion for ya mate :

What actually happened with Cantacuzino in Spain. Did he have a flight accident or did he die on a hospital bed? There are many rumors about him, but nobody knows his true destiny... Can you help?

No, unfortunately, there are no surviving W. W. 2-era warplanes in Rumanian aviation museums, only two trainers.
The sole preserved ARR warplane, a Ju 88D-1, is located in a US museum, in Dayton, Ohio.

Many thanks for your message. Appologise the error yes I know is a IAR 80 cockpit and I am estonished about the relatively advanced and futurstic view of the cockpit and the instruments layout . I can recognise the HUD, Artificial Horison, Rate Of Climb Indicator ( Variometer) ,Air Speed Indicator a clock and thats about eat ...a manîfold gauge and an RPM indicators seems to be in there too though hard to see them.......do u by chance have photos of lower , left and right pannels? were the instruments and HUD (boresight) german made or manufactured in Roumania? what on the earth has happened with all the IAR's afer the arrival of the Russians ? I got some photos from the last air shows at Mihai Cogalnicieanu Air Base showing that a few IAR-80's other than trainer version are still preserved ( see photos) Finally I am unable to follow your link in order to buy your book at Amazon....will u be more accurate ?

That is teh replica belonging to the Air Force Museum at Otopeni. Unfortunately, although intended to (but lacked funding), it isn't flyable. The engine is an original, but the structure isn't able to take the stress of flight.
