I have the video-cd version of that tape, interview whit 3 romanian pilots (Sculi, Carol Anastasescu, and anothe one, i forgot his name) , somme known footage, verry short fragments of the Gologan reportage, recent footage from the helicopter on the Ploesti area. But the bad part is that it has subtitles and the font used is verry big sad.gif

I found the data for the plane in the picture below.
B-24 Sn 41-11766 V CHUG-A-LUG Pilot LeRoy B. Morgan, 98BG,345thBS
Returned to Benghazi damaged and with the Top Turret gunner KIA on Tidal Wave mission.
The romanian pilot Sgt. Bosinceanu ( IAR 80) reported that he destroyed the upper turret of one B-24 finishing his ammo.

PS: Alex, please find the names of the crew for this B-24.

Hello Dan

Except of the names of the CHUG-A-LUG and SAND-WITCH crews which you also have , the 15AF 2 Air Divsion does not contain any details on the crews nor any of the relatives of the crews have ever posted any requested for info...though I am still working on it with Confederate AF and 44th, 389, and 98 Bmb Grp vets familes.

Do you need the name of the crews of CHUG-A-LAG ?

No Alex, personaly I don't need the names of CHUG-A-LUG. But the two guys in the picture are crew members and maybe someone could indentify them from the list. Anyway i will serch myself in my data base ( I think i have also the story of this B-24 in Tidal Wave mission).
Btw., I found the location of Bolovani Cemetery. It is indeed in the west side of Ploesti. Next trip will be Ploesti.
And also found the crash place of Euroclydon. It is near the village Plopu aprox. 10Km NE from Ploesti. One of the crew member was indentified (Joe Boswell) and was burried togheter with other unindentified crew members in a common grave in Plopu cemetery on 1 august'43.

Dan.

Dan the CHUGALUG crews are as following :

P Lt Leroy B.Morgan
CP Hosea W.Rich ( KIA in 1944)
N 2nd Lt Victor H.Larson ( WIA)
B 2nd Lt Chaplin Watkins
TT James Van Ness ( he was killed by the ARR pilot on his top turett)
R Robert L.Tipton also wounded in action by the same ARR plane
TG Norbert I.Petrie ( German immigrant )
G Norman I Cupp
G Forrest D.Hudley

I am still clarifying who's on your top turret photo

As into the EUCLYDON, the one you mentioned was the CPL , the Pilot Lt Enoch Porter was also KIA , the Bombardier Jose D.Franks bailed out but his parachute failed to open , Radio Ops and 2 gunners have died, 2 gunners POW at Sinaia ....note that the aircraft had extra 2 gunners on board which was rather unsual ( beside top turret gunner, tail gunner, waist gunners ,B & N who also manned guns)

I heard that one of the gunners ( Dikinson) was volunteer (clandestine) and not official on this mission.

Yes Dan they were....they aboarded the aircraft without knowledge of the specific superiors and and never returned back ...they were actually ground crews ,trained as technical staff . Also on the aftermath of the TIDALWAVE the parachute rigger who packed EUROCLYDON Bombardier J.D.Franks was subject to military trials.
