Denes, Fratello posted a photo of the HONKEY TONK GAL stated in Rumanian language by the author that the aircraft was later on painted with ARR markings...can you check with your friend at Brasov if ever this airplane was repaired and made flight worth as the the BOIL MAKER II ?
Thanks Al |

Yes thanks Fratello is there anyway to get it ( to buy it ? ask your friend) also the photos depicting the pilot who shot the HONKEY THONK GAL is a rare piece of evidence never seen yet......It can be seen that the aircraft took direct hits under captains rudder pedals just at the Bombardier and N area....the Bombardier died of his woonds on Aug 8th 1943 in a roumanian hospital, the rest were POW in Rumania

That's very hard to prove, unless photos or documents surface. I know that at least two B-24s were repaired and restored to airworthy status by Rumanian technicians. This might be the second one... Gen. Dénes |

Done. Alex, see the map I made below, using the map squares from http://www.hartionline.ro. The blue lines are the distances you asked for. The black ones are the distances to Buftea. As you can see is closer to the "160 course" you mentioned, than the blue line. If you will look at the map posted by Fratello, you will see that the two bomber groups that made the turn at Targoviste turned back northwards somewhere near Buftea. Attached Image |

Many thanks Victor indeed 86km from Pitesti (IP) to north of Otopeni ( the formation of the 376th started its turn back to the North after Snagov and not at Buftea as indicated by the Roumanian source, because the formation was sighted by various peoples on the ground who deposed later on testamonies about seeing them over Snagov and near Otopeni rather than Buftea Alex This post has been edited by alexkdl on January 28, 2005 07:30 pm Attached Image |

Here is a very rare photo of the famous HONKEY THONK GAL crew before Tidalwave, the Bombardier on the crew got killed when the ARR pilot Lt Tache Baciou has pierced the lower deck with bullets. The crash of the HONKEY THONK appeared on various TW footages. All crew spent 18 months POW detention in Rumania till Ops REUNION took place
